Berlin Hotel Guide

Berlin is the capital city of Germany, and is its largest city. Because the western and eastern parts of Berlin were separated from 1949 until 1989, Berlin is one of the most diverse cities in the European Union. The city is located on the rivers Havel and Spree, and is surrounded by the state of Brandenburg. Berlin has a population of approximately 3 and half million people.

The city is an important part of the expansion of the European Union, and is the cultural and political center of the country. The city of Berlin is well known for its universities, as well as its museums and research facilities. Berlin was founded in the 13th century after Germanic peoples settled on the land that was once a Slavic area.

Berlin is without a shadow of a doubt the heart of Germany, a city which defines Germany and its culture. Despite the fact that the Berlin Wall has fallen, the city is still divided, with east Berlin being a somewhat neglected part of town.

Berlin is a great city to visit at all times of the year, but the weather is best between the months of May and September. The city is very busy during the summer, but is a great time for those who love the outdoors. When it comes to attractions, Berlin is a city which has something for everyone.

Those who enjoy going to museums will find many in Berlin. Those who enjoy history will want to visit the Brandenburger Tor, which at one time was the iron boundary between east and west Berlin. It is one of the most photographed areas of Germany.

When it comes to dining, Germany has a fairly simple traditional cuisine. Most German dishes are composed of meats and potatoes. Despite this, you can find many different types of food in Berlin. Germany is a fairly expensive city where it is easy to spend lots of money.

If you use a rail pass to get around and prepare your own meals, you may be able to stay in Berlin for 50 euros a day. Those who choose to stay at mid range hotels and use public transport can expect to spend 100 euros per day.

Most restaurants and other establishments will charge a service fee, and you can tip them extra if you choose to, though it is not expected. While many large establishments take credit cards, most of Germany is still a cash based society.

Ambitions

I ait?m to become the president of my country. I have the object of becoming the greatest scientist. I will one day be the richest person in the world. I aim to and so goes the list of ambitions of people. Nobody remembers that the final goal for each one of us is going back to earth. Let us talk more about ambitions.

Are ambitions good or bad? This is difficult to answer, isn’t it? To be an ambitious person must be very good. With ambitions a person strives to achieve a great feat. Few of us have very big ambitions and few very small. It all depends on our contentment. What will make us feel happy? What will make us feel worthy, and what will make us feel powerful? It’s all about what we want from life. If you want money at any cost, you will compromise with all other values and try to make more money. But if your ambition is to become an honest person and live a God fearing life, no amount of money can attract you to do any wrongs.

Ambitions therefore depend upon our character, culture, mental makeup, outlook, values and so on. Till our ambitions don’t trouble others it is ok. If by achieving our goals, we make others happy, that is still better. But if our ambitions hurt others, we must revisit our thinking and redefine our ambitions.

Pros and Cons of Battery Technologies Used in Cameras Choose the Right One for You

Like other portable consumer electronic devices digital cameras use batteries as their power source. In this article we will describe different battery technologies and their cons and pros. Armed with this knowledge you will be able to take into consideration the battery used when purchasing your next camera.

A camera usually supports just one type of battery either a disposable battery or a rechargeable one. The exception is cameras that are powered by standard AA, AAA or similar batteries. In most of these cases disposable and rechargeable batteries can be used interchangeably.

There are two battery types:

  • disposable batteries: can only be used once. They usually have a standard size and shape such as AA, AAA and so on. You can buy these batteries at most stores and once they are empty you simply dispose them (please help keep the environment safe and clean by disposing batteries only to special battery disposal containers).
  • rechargeable batteries: can be used multiple times. Some rechargeable batteries have a standard size and shape such as AA, AAA and so on. Such standard size batteries can be used anywhere that a disposable battery can. More often than not however rechargeable batteries have a proprietary shape and are compatible with just a few specific cameras. Once a rechargeable battery is empty you can place it in a special charger that will recharge it. The time it takes to recharge a battery, the number of times it can be charged and the life time of the battery are dependant on the technology used to build the battery.
  • There are pros and cons to using disposable or rechargeable batteries. The main advantage to using a disposable battery is that you can always buy a few to have with you to replace the ones that are empty and you can always get one in a store close-by in case you are stuck with empty batteries. The disadvantages to using disposable batteries are the cost of buying new batteries every times your batteries are empty, the capacity (in most cases a disposable battery will not last as long as a good rechargeable battery). On the other hand rechargeable batteries require only one purchase. When the battery is empty you can simply place it in its charger and after an hour or so you will have a fully recharged battery. The disadvantage is that if you run out of batteries during a photo shooting session or somewhere away from home or a power supply you can not just buy another battery. The solution to that problem is to buy one extra battery and to always carry it with you fully charged.

If your camera uses standard size batteries such as AA or AAA you can have the advantages of both disposable and rechargeable batteries. You can always use disposable AA or AAA batteries with the camera but you can also get a rechargeable AA or AAA battery and use it when convenient.

    Rechargeable batteries technologies:

Different technologies are used in building rechargeable batteries. Look at the battery itself to find out what technology was used in most cases it will be written on a small sticker on the battery or somewhere on its packaging. The following are the most common technologies and some of their pros and cons:

  • nickel cadium: one of the oldest technologies. These batteries are inexpensive, they can be recharged fast and many times before they lose their capacity. On the downside they have a low capacity and have a memory effect a memory effect means that the battery can not be recharged to its full capacity unless it is first fully discharged. This can be problem since in most cases you will want to make sure your battery regardless of its current state is fully charged before going on a photo shooting session. Some charges solve this problem by first discharging the battery and only then recharging it to its full capacity.
  • nickel metal hybrid: this technology is an improvement of nickel cadium. These batteries capacity is much higher up to 50% more. Although it still has a memory effect it is less noticeable than in nickel cadium batteries. On the downside these batteries can be charged less times before losing their capacity and they also discharge faster when not in use.
  • lithium ion: A new technology that solves many of the nickel technology problems. Lithium ion batteries have a higher capacity than even nickel metal. They have no memory effect at all (and thus regardless of their current state they can always be recharged to their fullest capacity). The downside is that they are more expensive than nickel batteries.
  • lithium polymer: the latest technology. These batteries have all the advantages of lithium ion and more. They have an even higher capacity and can also be easily manufactured in any shape or form. This allows for much smaller and lighter high capacity batteries and for batteries shaped to better fit the camera design.
  • In conclusion when choosing a camera and considering what batteries it uses you should first make a choice between disposable and rechargeable batteries. If you choose to get a camera that uses rechargeable batteries you should try to choose a battery that uses the latest technologies like polymer or lithium unless you have some special considerations.

    Magazine Subscriptions For Teens

Many parents express concern over the amount of time that there children play computer games and watch television. They worry that this preoccupation with video games and television may be impacting their children from an educational and learning standpoint.

With that said, there most definitely are educational and appropriate television programs for children being broadcast today. Additionally, there are some video games that have an educational component that can be useful to a child, particularly a teenager. Finally, used properly, the Internet and World Wide Web can be a useful learning tool for a teenaged child.

Nonetheless, when all is said and done, the importance of treading and writing cannot be underestimated — even in this high tech era. A teenagers future depends in no small way on his or her ability to read and write well.

If you are the parent of a teenaged child, you might want to consider obtaining for your child a magazine subscription that will prompt your child to read more. In this regard, there are a number of different option available to you when it comes to magazine subscriptions for teens.

First of all, there are a number of different, more educationally rooted publications for children, including teenagers. You might want to consider obtaining one or another of these subscriptions for your teenaged child.

In addition, there are now some news and entertainment publications that are geared towards a teenaged audience specifically. Of course, some parents shy away from these types of publications because they do not deem them to be educational per se. While there might be some truth to that point in regard to entertainment publications, a teenager that has access to one or another of these publications nonetheless is spending time reading which is an educational experience in and of itself. Studies have clearly demonstrated that if a teenager enjoys what he or she is reading, that child will read more and more.

In looking for magazine subscriptions for a teenager, you might want to spend some time shopping around on the Internet and World Wide Web. By spending some time on the Net, you can find out what specifically is available in the way of magazine subscriptions for teenagers at this point in time. In addition, you easily can order one or another — or a combination of different — subscriptions for your teenaged child. Additionally, by ordering online, you may be able to save some money on your magazine subscription for your teenaged child.

    Home Base Loan Officer Positions

If you are a loan officer looking for a little more freedom and flexibility in your work day, you may want to consider a home base loan officer position.

Most mortgage broker shops will allow for you to work from home once they have trained you on their system and have acclimated you to their products and services.

Most mortgage companies, banks included, prefer for their mortgage representatives to work from home because it saves the company money in the way of office space.

Finding a home base loan officer position should not be too difficult if you are looking in the right places. Most loan officer positions that you see in want ads and on Yahoos hot jobs put work from home in their job description.

Working from home can have its challenges at times, so make sure it is the right choice for you.

For instance, I was a loan officer working for a mortgage company. After six months of learning the ropes in the office, I made the decision to work from home.

After working from my home base for about three months, I began to feel lonely. I began to miss the comradery that I once had with my fellow co-workers in the office.

I began to feel as though I were no longer a part of the rat race.

And although I was supplied with all of the necessary equipment to run a home based office, I still felt as though I was lacking in some of the resources a large office had to offer.

My advice to you would be this. If you decide to work from home, consider partnering with another loan officer to work with you. Obviously one that you like and trust, just so you have someone to bounce things off of, if nothing else.

Or, work from your home base on your own for a while to see how you like it. If you begin to feel that the environment is a little stagnant, than consider bringing in another loan officer to work with you.

In the end, if a home base loan officer position is what you want, than do it, it just may be the right fit for you. The beauty of the loan officer position is that many options are open to us, so if you dont like the home atmosphere, go back to the office.

Kids with Asthma – Help Them Stay Healthy

Childhood breathing problems can be stressful and frightening for parents. After all, you want your child to be able to play just like every other child. You don’t want him or her to have to live in a bubble or struggle to breathe.

Unfortunately, breathing problems–usually related to asthma and allergies–are becoming more and more common in Western countries. Experts are still exploring why this is so. But the bottom line is, if you’re a parent of a young child, there’s a good chance you’ll have to deal with asthma at some point in time.

So what is a parent to do? Just give up and accept that your child will never be “normal”? Of course not! The good news is, there are quite a few positive actions you can take that will go a long way towards helping your child live a happy, active life.

Here are three main steps you can take to help keep your child with asthma healthy…

Step 1: First, you need to understand asthma.

Knowledge is power, and knowing what actions to take start with understanding what’s going on in your child’s body. Asthma is a chronic breathing problem that interferes with your child’s ability to get air in and out of his or her lungs.

When your child has asthma, the airways often become red, swollen and irritated. This means the passages become narrower, which makes it harder for the air to flow in and out. Also, the airways overreact by producing large amounts of mucus, which can clog the airways further. This causes symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

There is no cure for asthma, but there are many medicines and treatments that can keep it under control. Some children do grow out of asthma over time as well.

Step 2: Get a handle on your child’s asthma triggers.

It’s a well-known fact that asthma symptoms are set off–or triggered–by certain environmental substances. For unknown reasons, your child’s body “sees” these triggers as threats, even though most people are not bothered by them. The lungs then overreact by triggering an asthma attack.

The most common asthma triggers in children are pollen, dust, molds, food allergies, pet dander, and even colds. Scents and cigarette smoke can also set off an asthma attack.

As a parent, you will be able to notice the things that trigger your child’s asthma symptoms. Make note of the patterns, and then do your best to help your child avoid those triggers as much as possible.

Step 3: Play an active role in your child’s health care.

Children who have asthma do need medical care. It’s important to consult with your pediatrician or an asthma specialist and get your child on a treatment program that will help control or prevent his or her symptoms.

The doctor may prescribe the treatment, but it will be up to you to carry it out. It is essential to follow the plan laid out for your child to the letter. Skipping doses of medicine or nebulizer treatments–even on good days–will lead to health problems sooner or later… probably sooner.

So, talk with your health care professional. Ask questions until you are sure you understand exactly what is going on and what to do for your child. Ask your child’s doctor to help you fill out an “Asthma Action Plan” that guides you when to take emergency action during asthma attacks or when an attack is building.

Lastly, keep your child’s doctor informed about what is working or not working. Report when your child’s symptoms change. The doctor will not know when to update the plan of treatment unless you keep him or her informed.

So, in summary, parents are in the best position to help their children with asthma stay healthy and live active lives like other kids. All it takes is a healthy dose of knowledge, good observation skills, active communication with the care team, and a generous helping of love.

Donating Used Cars For A Cause

Modern technology has produced a surplus of goods which we find difficult to dispose of. While many of us are sensibly reaping the fruits of our contemporary development and affluence, it is not a bad idea to share some of our blessings to financially disadvantaged people.

    What to donate?

There are hundreds of things to donate, as there are various ways to do it. As more and more people suffer from financial burden, increasing numbers of people are incapacitated to reach out to different places and are an impediment from the many opportunities waiting for them in the outside world.

Cars are considered to be one of our primary needs in this modern time. While more than 80% of most American adults own cars or at least renting their own cars, there are still some who cannot finance the purchase of their own automobiles.

This can isolate individuals and discriminate against them due to their financial situation. This is such a sad fact, yet, the good news is that you can do something to stop it or at least, be part of the cause in solving this part of this global dilemma.

    Statistics

Just exactly how many individuals are getting into this humanitarian cause? From 1992 to present alone, institutions catering for car donations services have estimated to receive more than 35,000 cars a month within that period.

If you are planning to buy a new car and replace an existing one and have not come up with an idea where to put it, either selling it or rebuilding it, perhaps donating it to a charitable institution could solve your problem and potentially make a big difference in the lives of others.

How Can I donate my car?

Car donation centers usually offer services that including picking up the automobile you would like to donate (free of charge for most car charity institutions), prepare the title transfer requirements, and all legal documents related to the clearing of ownership of the car.

Most charitable donation centers who accept automobiles, provide a tax-deductible donation receipt to the donor in due consideration for donated cars.

    Determining Eligibility for Car Assistance

Members of the board of charitable institutions choose among the list of applicants requesting a vehicle. Together, they determine the eligibility and proof of financial incapacity among applicants to purchase automobiles.

Preference will be awarded to individuals who have clear credit standing showing inability to purchase automobile machines. The car beneficiary will undergo the same legal process of transfer requirements to legitimately take its title of ownership.

Help For People Who Struggle To Sleep At Night

Do you find it hard to get a good nights sleep? Are you looking into the different ways of helping you to obtain more sleep at night? Is stress affecting your sleep patterns?? A couple of years ago I am the type of person who would have answered yes to all of these questions. In this article I give advice which may help other people to have a better nights sleep.

I am somebody who loves going to bed and who loves going to sleep. I also feel that I need at least seven hours of sleep per night. If I do not manage to sleep for this amount of time I wake up in a very negative state of mind and am unable to work throughout the day to my best level.

The problem that I have is that I am somebody who easily becomes stressed. This can happen over the smallest of things and I tend to see these problems as much bigger than they actually are. I am also quite a paranoid person and used to always worry about what other people thought and were saying about me.

This stress and over anxiety often affected my speech and I tried many things to help me with the situation. Counting sheep did not work and other methods that I read about were also of little use. I would often see the clock by my bed change from three to four, to five and to six in the morning. This would get me down as I knew that this would result in me having a bad day when I eventually got out of bed.

It was as if my brain was unable to switch off, my mind was always thinking and worrying and could not shut down or relax enough for me to fall asleep.

A friend of mine then recommended that I needed to completely tire out my body before even attempting to go to bed and to sleep. He advised that I should perhaps do a lot more exercise, possibly going for a swim in the early evening and then for a long jog a few hours later. I could also purchase some type of home gym and have a good workout at around 10pm. By doing this he suggested my body would have no choice but to sleep.

I gave my friends advice a go and am very happy to report that it worked for me.

Take It Easy and Let Loose

The word tight is getting more familiar these days. It often describes things that are usually associated with our daily activities: tight schedule, tight budget, and even tight clothes (for those who have recently gained weight). A common worker nowadays lives a tight lifestyle and this can make a person prone to having tight muscles. Tightening or contraction of muscles naturally occurs upon movement. Mobility actually is facilitated by the alternate and simultaneous coordination of the contraction and relaxation of muscles. However, excessive tightening of muscles should already be a cause of alarm. Conditions such as muscle cramps and muscle spasms result from continuous contraction of muscles or the muscles constant state of being tight. Muscle cramps or spasms should not be taken lightly because it can actually cause a person to remain immobile for a long period of time.

6 Steps To Buying The Right Snowboard Boots

One of the most important pieces of equipment of snowboarding is your snowboard boots. They are your connection to the snowboard, by not spending time in finding the right boots; you can ruin your snowboarding experience. some quick tips for buying boots.

Should I buy Step in or Strap in boots…

The first decision is if you want the traditional strap-in boots or the newer step-in boots. If you decide to go for the step-in boots you will have to buy the bindings and boots together, this is because the strap-in boots will not work with the step-in binding. The trend at the moment seems to be softer boots with strap-in bindings.

    the fit of the boots…

No matter how much you have to spend on boots it is very important that you take time finding the best fitting boots. If you buy boots that are comfortable in the shop you will find aching feet on the slope. So find boots that are snug. Remember be patient. Different brands of boots suit different types of feet. So go forth and find your boots.

    Trying On Boots…
Here are a few things to remember when trying on your boots. Firstly wear proper socks. Put on a boot and push your heel into the back of the boot to make sure that your foot is secure. Then tie the boots laces tight but not too tight. Then close the outer lining of the boot, repeat the process with the other boot. Attach the bindings and stand up. Notice how secure your feet are, move forwards and backwards making sure there is no rubbing that may cause you discomfort later on.

    heel lift…
Heel Lift is when you lean forward in your boots and your heel lifts and not your snowboard. But this will be minimized if you find the best boots for your feet.

    Inner Boots…
There are many advantages of having inner boots or lining, usually the inner boots can be laced like the outer boots, and they provide a little extra stability on the slope. You can take the inner boot out to dry after a long day snowboarding.

My PC Has Adware, What Should I Do?

I gotta tell ya, when I first got my computer when it was brand new, it worked like a charm! Then as I got a little bit more familiar with it, friends and family suggested I try some online applications. One was this cute purple ape that would help you surf the net.. or so I thought.

Turns out that damn application, along with a few others I installed, what were supposed to help increase my productivity, ended up doing exactly the opposite!

Sound familiar to you? Well, if so, then your not alone. Millions of computer users around the world have their PCs infected with adware, and dont even know it. Whats adware you say? Well, its any application that records what you do (or do not do) and reports that data back to third party vendors.

Now I know this sounds like covert ops stuff, but its really big business. See, the truth of the matter is these advertisers make a lot of money off of knowing your computer habits. Things like, where you go, what you do, how long your there, where you clicked, etc. Its kind of scary when you think about it.
They come up with the applications that are usually disguised as innocent toolbars or programs that will show you the weather, etc. Once you install these things, they leach and lurk throughout your machine, slowing it down to no end.

They dont care that you may have work to do, a report for school, or if your playing a game. Their job is to report back to their vendors what your doing, and how you do it. This way, these advertisers can come up with better targeted ads that will be used to get you to click on this link, or buy this product.

There is hope though, and it can return your computer back to you, the rightful owner. You can download to your PC some adware removal tools that will take out all of the know adware off your machine, and in the process, speed it up too.

Its usually a quick download and install, and the applications are easy to use. Usually you let it scan your machine for a list of known offenders, and it does the rest, scouring your machine looking for them. When it does find any, it makes a list of what adware you have, what it does, and flags it for removal.

All you need to do then is say yes, and it takes them out fast. Then you just reboot your machine, and waalaa! Fast and fun computing just like your used to.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel for your PC. Now you know, so go get your PC scanned and cleaned today.

    Amazing Trivia Part 1

    Tags: , ,

I admit it .. I LIKE trivia, tho it serves no purpose for me since I can never remember any to bring up in conversation. But still, it is fun, so I’ve created this list of amazing trivia that I found to be absolutely riveting.

    1. Snails can sleep up to 3 years.
Not so amazing actually since I managed to sleep thru 6 years of jr. high and high school. And when you think about it, what do snails have to do all their lives? Sure, they leave great slime trails and make excellent targets for salt shakers and little boys, but other than that theres not much more to do but sleep after an exhausting run across a sidewalk.

    2. American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one olive from each salad served in first-class.
Until I read this, I was convinced that there was an olive missing from my salad, yet no one would believe me. Now I am vindicated! I am now searching for proof that the airlines have taken one peanut from each bag .. I’ll keep you posted.

    3. An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain.
After reading this, I realized that I know of many people with the same problem! But thats an article about politicians I’m working on. For me, it’s usually that my eyes are bigger than my stomach…

    4. Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.
Well, I’d like to see anyone keep this up long enough to actually lose 150 calories. Now that I think about it, I DON’T want to see…

    5. Donald Duck comics were banned in Finland because he doesn’t wear pants.
This is completely understandable.. I mean, who wants to look at a duck with no pants on? Besides, I understand that it is the law for all birds to wear pants in the city limits of Finland.

    6. If you pass gas consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
I tried to prove or disprove this, but two things stopped me … I couldn’t stand to look at a bowl of chili after the third day, and my girlfriend threatened to leave me … although it was kinda hard to tell what she was really saying with that gasmask on.

    7. In ancient Egypt, priests plucked EVERY hair from their bodies, including their eyebrows and eyelashes.
Now, this piece of trivia leaves ALOT to the imagination, which is probably a good thing. BUT, I would like to point out, you’d have to be pretty limber to get some on those hairs .. nuff said.

    8. The ant always falls over on its right side when intoxicated.
I know this trivia fact isn’t true ’cause I’ve gone drinking with my ants several times and I’ve watched them fall over in several different directions… usually they tend to fall on my uncles tho.

    9. The average human eats eight spiders in their lifetime at night.
I don’t know about this fact … I’ve seen several spiders at night and never once felt compelled to eat one. Though I hear that spider is tasty if barbequed correctly.

    10. And now for our final fun trivia fact:
Some lions mate over 50 times a day… No wonder the females do all the work.

Small-Business Owners See Benefits of Banking Online

As it becomes easier and more convenient to bank online, small-business owners are increasingly turning to Internet banks to alleviate some of their financial headaches.

Internet-based banks like NetBank are giving traditional banks some fierce competition as more small businesses make the shift to online banking.

“We are extremely pleased with the success of our small-business banking initiative,” said Douglas K. Freeman, chairman and chief executive officer of NetBank Inc. “More and more, small businesses are embracing the Internet and using it to do business better, faster, cheaper.”

Some of the ways in which NetBank makes it easy for small businesses to bank online include providing dedicated relationship managers to each of its clients; a dedicated customer care unit trained to handle the customer’s small-business needs; enhanced account administration features allowing multiple users with different access levels; and a remote deposit system that allows customers to deposit checks into their accounts without leaving the office.

“Small business banking is a natural extension of our services and it represents an excellent growth opportunity for us,” said Bert Davis, director of small business banking for NetBank. “We can provide tremendous value from both a customer service and pricing standpoint, and that’s not something a large number of small-business customers are finding today.”

In addition, NetBank has teamed with Wall Financial Services to provide Web-based accounts receivable lines of credit.

NetBank is also working with MBNA to issue no annual-fee credit cards with a credit line of up to $100,000, while forming a partnership with CompuPay to offer specialized payroll services for small businesses.

Indeed, banking online has streamlined virtually every banking task facing a small-business owner.

“Our own research shows that small-business owners across the country say the Internet is either somewhat important or very important to their business,” Freeman said.

Brief Overlook of Some Fun Thomas the Train Toys and Sets

Thomas the Train toys are specially designed to help your children learn while growing up while at the same time keeping them entertained, and this goal has definitely been successful since Thomas and his friends have fascinated children of many generations – more than sixty years! You can find a wide assortment of different Thomas the Train toys and merchandise, but this quick overlook will cover toy trains and train set accessories.

I have been a fan of all the Thomas the Train toys for quite a while, and I thought someone could find a quick summary of the train sets information interesting, so I decided to write this article. I hope you enjoy it.

    Manually-powered Thomas the Train toys

The most known Thomas the Train toys distributor is Learning Curve; their wooden sets are just delightful. They are able to operate on the wooden tracks provided by Learning Curve, and also on those similar tracks manufactured by BRIO. These wooden sets are highly recommended for children aged 2 to 5, because at those young ages the children tend to enjoy manually using the trains on the ground or any other surface, so they won’t get to fully enjoy more complex, remotely controlled train sets. Learning Curve also introduced the “Take Along” Thomas the Train toys series that was made of metal. In this series, the trains connect with the coaches by using magnets, which is a smart idea. The track is made of plastic, and the only disadvantage I found is that they are not at all compatible with the older wooden tracks.

Other good metal models of Thomas the Train and his friends were those manufactured by ERTL, but unfortunately the company discontinued the series.

Another great series of Thomas the Train toys is the line manufactured by TOMY. The series includes plastic models and tracks, and many kids prefer them over the metal ones mentioned above. This company also launched the “My first Thomas the Train” series of manually powered plastic train sets designed for younger children, with rubber wheels and a good plastic track.

    Electrically-powered Thomas the Train toys

Electrically powered train sets are recommended for older kids. Among the manufacturers of the best electrical Thomas the Train toys, you can find big known names like Bachmann and Tomica. Battery or transformer powered Thomas the Train characters and accessories are available, and both of them also made tracks available in several sizes. They even manufactured some remotely controlled sets too! Other manufacturers of electrically powered trains were Lionel and Hornby.

The electrical sets are not my favorites. In fact, I prefer the old wooden sets, which seem to be more useful for a developing child than other sets.

Of course, your preferences on Thomas the Train toys may not be the same as mine. Feel free to visit your local toy store and ask the salespeople about all the available different Thomas the Train toys. You will surely find a train set that meets your expectations, and will definitely be able to provide your child a highly entertaining experience while helping him or her learn fun things too.

New Football Organization Helps You Stay in the Game

Maybe you started playing football when you were 8 years old and never quite lost your love of the game. Perhaps you even went on to play college ball. Whatever level you played, it’s a good bet that your passion for the game didn’t stop when the last whistle blew and the last play ended.

So how would you like to rub elbows with NFL Hall of Fame inductee Sam Huff, who played for the New York Giants when they won the championship in 1956? Or, if you’re drawn more to the art of coaching, how would you like to talk shop with Barry Switzer, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys when they won the Super Bowl in 1995, or Willie Wood, the first black head coach in professional football?

You can be a part of it all -whether you’re still in the game or watching from the sidelines -by becoming a member of American Football Alumni, an organization of current and former football players, coaches and others who actively support the sport. Its advisory board of directors includes some of football’s most storied players and coaches.

AFA was created as a social and networking organization to give its members the opportunity to get back in the game and recapture the energy and excitement of their playing years.

While some alumni organizations currently exist, AFA’s organizers say there is still a great need for an alumni community that will allow interaction among football players and coaches on both a personal and professional level.

Recent surveys conducted by AFA reveal that 70 percent of former football players would be interested in joining an alumni association with high school and college players. Seventy-nine percent are interested in reunions with former teammates and 55 percent said they’d be interested in purchasing their old school football jerseys, especially if their names were included.

AFA has numerous member benefits, including special pricing for Football Fest 2006 and other AFA conferences and conventions, discounts on AFA merchandise and voting in local and national alumni polls.

The group plans on sponsoring annual conventions beginning in Las Vegas in 2006.

    Preparing For Your Golden Years

Planning for your retirement is obviously a good idea. The phrase “the earlier, the better” describes what your policy should be for handling your transition from a harried work life to your relaxed golden years. At best, take twenty four to eighteen months to prepare for this significant change in your life.

    * Cleaning Up – Try to pay off any outstanding debts or fiscal responsibilities before moving on, especially those that are hedged against your retirement plan. If you don’t, you’ll probably be paying them out of your pension/savings and that is an incredibly bad idea for a retired individual.

    * Doing the Paperwork – A year before you retire would be a good time for you to start doing the necessary paperwork for your retirement. Birth certificates, passports and other identity papers should help smooth your transition to a senior citizen.

    * Health Care – Always check with the employee benefits department six months to a year before retirement. Ask them how your health insurance will change once you’re not a member of the company. Depending on the answer, you may have to look around for new or additional insurance for yourself. Also, take into consideration any continuing ailments that you may have. Covering them with health insurance is a good idea, since they may take out a significant part of your retirement income.

    * Budgeting For Yourself – Check what your income sources will be after retirement. This can be from your employer – with the company’s own pension plan, Social Security and your own personal savings. After that, make a budget that would fit your approaching financial situation. You really need to do this well in advance, so that you may be able to change it for any required adjustments such as paying for new medical insurance and other expenses that may pop up. A year should give you a large enough margin to prepare. If you’re having trouble balancing it all, a financial advisor is a good investment. Try to find one that has a good solid reputation so as to avoid any problems.

    * Making a New Tax Payment Plan – Switching from your salary to your retirement income is a big change but you still have to pay taxes for that change. After retiring, contact your tax advisor on what forms you’ll have to submit and how to set up a good payment plan so that you’ll be able to maximize what you can out of your payout from retiring.
